So here we are at the end of another year. Right about now, people reflect on the current year and develop resolutions for the coming year. I’m partly on this train. I mean I did post my best 9 pics on Instagram.
Now as far as resolutions…………..I don’t join that party. Maybe it’s because I never stick with the resolution the entire year. Or, maybe I don’t like resolutions because there is some type of restriction involved. Whether it’s no more sweets, less carbs, or less inactivity, resolutions to me usually mean some type of restriction.
Part of the reason why I don’t stick to the resolution is because the restriction is short lived and there’s usually no consequence for not fulfilling the resolution. Maybe I selected the wrong resolution, but I just couldn’t get a resolution to work for me for 365 days.
So for 2019, I decided to focus on the positive rather than the negative. Rather, than focus on what I can’t or should not do, I’m going to focus on what I can do. Focus on the positive keeps you uplifted and motivated, right?
If you read my last blog post (and I hope you did!), you’ll know that words, particularly quotes, mean a lot to me. So the focus for 2019 are the following two key words:
YES
I’m usually a pretty positive person despite juggling marriage, parenthood, and a career. At times, I find myself declining or sacrificing one thing for another. In 2019, I want to have a year of yes where I say yes more often than no. My plan includes:
· READ – I plan to read Shonda Rimes’ book, Year of Yes: How to Dance It Out, Stand In the Sun and Be Your Own. She has been so successful in her career, I’m curious to learn of her perspective and experiences.
· PLAN – I need to set a schedule. I usually have an annual planner, a planner app, a Google calendar, a period calendar, and a whiteboard to keep track of everything. I need to find a single planner that encompasses everything to keep everything together. With all I want to do in 2019, it sounds like I’m gonna be busy. It’s best to get prepared sooner than later.
· ACT – Finally, I need to act accordingly. If I’m going to get in the habit of saying yes, I need to position myself to say yes. So this means accepting requests to meet up with friends and accepting work projects to showcase my skills.
MORE
2019 is going to be the year of more for me. Now don’t get too excited. I’m not saying more of the “bad” stuff. No, I’m talking more of the good stuff like:
· MORE TRAVEL – I have a few trips planned for 2019, including an international trip (YES!). I’m ready for a change of scenery and new experiences.
· MORE LOVE – In 2019, I plan to love more on my loved ones. Getting lots of cuddles from my little ones, lots of “quality time” aka sex with my husband, lots of family time, and lots of meet ups with my girlfriends.
· MORE ME – I definitely want to make more time for me in this coming year. I want to take more time to develop by hobbies and interests on a more consistent basis. Me time for massages and nail appointments are great, but I really want to develop my whole self this year.
So there you have it! From the sound of it, 2019 sounds like it will be a great year for me. Now that I have my focus in place, let the mirror ball fall!
