Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony.
-Mahatma Gandhi
It’s midweek, otherwise known as hump day. Time to check in and see how everything is balancing out. Right about now is a good time to check in on my mental well being.
Mentally, I feel ok. I’d say, I’m pretty happy overall. But what is happiness? Of course there is a definition in the dictionary, but what is my personal definition of happiness? With Smiley as my last name, you’d think I’d be in this perpetual state of happiness. Nope! I have my low moments too. I just try not to wallow too much in them.
But what about days like today? Things are not bad, but they’re not super great either. It’s just ok. I’m usually not one to accept mediocrity, so why start now? I don’t have to settle for things to be ok. Things can be great.
Let’s establish some rules for happiness. So what’s my number one happiness rule? Choosing to be happy. This can be the first and only rule on the list. Make the decision to be happy and everything else will fall into place. Start your day with the decision to be happy. Chances are, you’ll have a happy demeanor and attitude.
I’m dedicated to choosing my own happiness. So this means finding out what makes me happy physically, mentally, and socially. From dance classes, personal mantras, and friends, I’m choosing to be happy.
And I think I made the right choice. Today went from being ok to being great!
