For years, I’ve tried to figure out my purpose in this thing we call life. I still haven’t figured it out, but I’ve learned some stuff along the way.
I would say I’m an active person. I don’t like being idle, so I try to keep myself busy with exercise, shopping, reading, and traveling. I would say I’m pretty healthy, except for my love of fried foods and warm bread at restaurants (Red Lobster cheddar bay biscuits anyone?). I’d say I’m an introvert, but within my inner circle I’m quite the extrovert. I’m married with a young son, and I have a decent career. Overall, life has been good.
On the outside looking in, you may think I have it all; however, on the inside, I struggle to keep everything together at times. Balancing a career, family, friends, hobbies, and time for me can be stressful. At times, I’m good at keeping some things in check, but not everything. The result is the constant juggling act.
As I complete this juggling act, I learned some ways to keep things in better balance. Focusing on everyone else and not on me, left me feeling drained. Focusing on just my physical health led to weight loss, but I had little energy to enjoy life. Having an all or nothing approach didn’t work for me.
What works for me is keeping my physical, mental, emotional, and social well being in check. One area may need more attention than the other, but collectively each aspect has an important role.
I’m human, so that means I’m not perfect. Like you, I have my good and bad days. There are days when everything is in sync and other days I just want to stay in the bed. But I get up. I give my best each day and do it again the next day.
I decided to start a blog to chronicle my journey. I figure it is best to share what works for me to help others. Who knows, I may have found my purpose in life!
