God gave us the gift of life; it is up to us to give ourselves the gift of living well.
-Voltaire
I woke up this morning with a feeling of gratitude. Not only am I thankful for a new day, family, friends, shelter, food, I’m thankful to have lived another year. Yep, that’s right today is my birthday.
As with any important date or milestone, I tend to take some time for personal reflection. Today, I want to reflect on my personal goals. Now, I could create a bucket list of things to accomplish before my next birthday; but, chances are, I’d probably complete a handful of things from the list, and feel ok about it. However, deep down, I know there has been something missing.
Looking back on this past year, I learned a lot about myself. A lot of my life lessons surrounded around the fact that I became a mother. This was one of the happiest and scariest times of my life. A baby comes without an instruction manual and there are no classes or books that can fully prepare you for the joy ride we call parenting. With the help from my husband, we were able to keep our son safe, happy, and healthy. Now, that I have a husband and son, I’ve been thinking a lot about my legacy. When I leave this earth I want to leave my mark. I’m not trying to think about death right now, but it’s important to set the stage for the future.
Starting this blog was a step in the right direction. I’m usually a pretty private person, so the idea of sharing my thoughts and opinions is so not me. So far the blog has been therapeutic for me and prevents me from keeping things bottled up inside. My genuine hope is for this blog to inform, entertain, and motivate you. I naturally gravitate to writing with a female audience in mind. However, the topics can be applied to both men and women.
I challenge you to use this blog to explore your relationship within yourself as well as those around you. This not only helps you, but it helps those around you. Creating the balance of physical, mental, social, and emotional well being is important for your overall health. Encouraging a balanced well being and healthy lifestyle is my mark, my legacy, and my joy. Thank you for embarking and sharing in this journey.
