It’s not what we do once in a while that shapes our lives, but what we do consistently.
-Anthony Robbins
A couple of years ago, I wrote about why I do not have New Year’s resolutions and how I use keywords to give myself focus. You can refresh your memory of that blog post here. I’ve found the resolutions don’t last past February in most cases. I was good about setting goals and having a plan to achieve them. However, over time, I lacked focus, commitment, and discipline to see my resolutions through to the end.
So in order to make it easier on myself, I started choosing one word that embodies focus, commitment, and discipline needed to see something through. This word will stay top of mind and remind me of what I need to accomplish.
For 2021, my word of the year is consistency. Consistency is important and useful in multiple areas of life. Imagine how you can crush your fitness goals with a consistent nutrition plan and workout routines? Or, imagine what consistent behavior can do to help you break a bad habit? Over the years, I’ve developed some bad habits. Maybe bad is not the right word, but I’ve developed habits that are not in line with keeping me well. So this year, I’m focusing on the following areas to be consistent.
Prioritizing Self-Care
I haven’t been the greatest at keeping myself at the forefront. It’s easy to lose yourself in the midst of marriage, kids, and work. Everyone needs something and my needs get pushed down the priority list. This changes this year. Rather than allocating one day a week to self-care, I will do something each day in the name of self-care. This will range from reading a book, giving myself a facial, eating a healthy meal, or enjoying a solo ride in my car. Life is too short to focus on myself one day a week, so a daily action should help me centered and well.
Updating This Blog
Last year I participated in a consistency challenge where I worked to write a daily blog post. I did fairly well with this challenge, but I didn’t maintain the level of consistency or anything close to it. This year, I’m focused on this blog and sharing my insights and lessons to help inspire you to live a well balanced lifestyle. Get ready!
Practicing Daily Prayer & Meditation
One of the most important things I want to change this year is establishing a stronger spiritual connection. I used to read from the Bible everyday. I would aside a specific time to read a devotional and pray. Over time, I strayed away from this, and I noticed a major difference in how I react and respond to situations in my life. This year, I will get back to praying each day as well as having some quiet time for meditation.
Consistency applies to everything. Developing good habits and minimizing bad habits can certainly get you to a successful place. Today is your day! Consistency is your key to success!
Do you have a word of the year? If so, post it below. Stay encouraged and be well!
